i am revisiting this family line again (according to Pettengill genealogy book , notes concerning the name of) this is most likely Mary E Archer and because she died young, i would have to include the possibility that she died while giving birth to Everett William Pettengill, because Everett was born around this time, but he himself only lived to age 38, dying of consumption. However, Everett did have several children, including Forest William Pettengill, who I am related to directly through this line.
It's been tough because the headstone for Mary states that her middle name is "H" when it should have been either "E" according to her middle name or "A" according to her maiden name Archer. There is a male last name "Haslam" who lived in Waltham, Hancock, Maine near these Pettengill's so...did she perhaps marry into that name before marrying William James Pettengill? If this Mary H Pettengill died at age 20 yrs 3 mos, according to this headstone which lists her as being "wife of Wm J Pettengill"; and William married another named Mary A Twynham, first child, a daughter named Frances born in 1856.
i cannot find any headstones for William J Pettengill, nor do I know where he was buried. His death certificate states that he died in Waltham, Hancock, Maine in 1909. I cannot find any marriage records for William, nor either of his wives named Mary. If anyone has any ideas where i might find these records? please contact me if you have any thoughts or if you think I am on the wrong track with this line and these 2 marriages. I am hoping someone has any photos or records because I have tried to contact Waltham, Hancock, Maine and found out that a fire destroyed their local records.
