Benjamin A. Shoemaker, 69, owner of B. A. Shoemaker and Sons, fuel firm of Little Silver, and a resident of that community for 50 years, died Sunday morning at Riverview hospital after a long illness. He had suffered a stroke and had been a patient at the hospital since December 20. He had resided at Sycamore avenue, Little Silver.

Mr. Shoemaker was born in Long Branch, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary E. Conover Shoemaker. He was a member of the Red Bank Elks club, an exempt member of the Little Silver Volunteer Fire company, the Little Silver American Mechanics lodge, and was a deacon of the Shrewsbury Presbyterian church at the time of his death. He was sergeant-at-arms of the North Shore Fuel Merchants association.

Mr. Shoemaker is survived by his wife, Mrs. May Elizabeth Rathbun Shoemaker; three sons, George C. Shoemaker of Sycamore avenue, Little Silver, Capt. Linden R. Shoemaker, stationed at Washington, D.C., and Benjamin A. Shoemaker, Jr. of Willow drive, Little Silver; two brothers, Harry C. Shoemaker of Point Pleasant and Walter Shoemaker of Long Branch, and three grandchildren.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Worden funeral home with Rev. Theodore Franklin, student supply of the Shrewsbury Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery.
