Robert "Bob" Scherer, 71, Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, after a seven-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Born on Feb. 7, 1940, in Manitowoc, Wis., he was the son of Lloyd and Marie (Trost) Scherer. Bob graduated from Lincoln High School where he served as Sophomore Class President and elected to attend Badger Boys State. He lettered in three varsity sports including the 1958 basketball team that played in the state tournament in Madison. He went on to attend Northern Illinois University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Bob was a proud member of the NIU Baseball team.

On Aug. 26, 1961, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Donna Bursek, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. In 1965, the couple moved to Green Bay, where he was employed for many years by Fort Howard Paper Company. He later joined Appleton Medical Center as Director of Marketing and Communications. Bob enjoyed golfing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Donna; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David (special friend, Mary Braidigan), Grafton, Wis.; and Jeff and Lori, Hobart, Wis.; and five grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Amanda, Rebecca and Paula. He is further survived by four brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Loretta, Dennis and Mary, Kenneth and Sylvia, all of Manitowoc; and Greg and Wendy, Naples, Fla.. Surviving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include Jerry and Mary Bursek, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Jim and Sandy Bursek, Townsend, Wis.; and Ron and Carol Bursek, Kenosha, Wis.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marie Scherer; and grandparents, George and Mary Trost; plus several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Visitation will take place at Lyndahl Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, where a parish wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Drive, Green Bay, after 10 a.m. on Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Demuth officiating. Inurnment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery, De Pere.
