Ferdinand Zummak Dies Tuesday At Sumner Hospital
Funeral Services To Be Held Today for 71-year old Sumner Resident

Funeral services for Ferdinand Zummak, 71, who died Tuesday morning, Sept 3 at Summer Community Memorial Hospital, will be held today (Thursday) at 2p.m. at St. John American Lutheran Church.

The Berg Funeral Home is in charge of the services and the pastor, Rev. John Mohr will officiate. Burial will be in the Maynard cemetery.

Mr. Zummak had suffered a slight stroke on Aug. 20 and was confined to his home. He was admitted to the local hospital Sunday morning.

Ferdinand Stephan Zummak was born Sept. 20, 1885 in Buchanan County, Ia., the son of Julius and Emelie (Doehr) Zummak.

He was baptized at the Forks Lutheran Church as an infant and in the spring of 1899 was confirmed in the Luthern faith at the same church by Rev. H. Herbst.

He was united in marriage with Miss Emelie Jesse at Forks on May 19, 1909. Rev. Lobbeck officiated at the ceremony. One child was born to this union.

The family made its home in Buchanan, Black Hawk, Bremer and Fayette counties, on farms, except for three years, 1921-1923 when they lived in Dunkerton.

He was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church, Sumner.

At the time of his death he had reached the age of 71 years, 11 months and 13 days.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Leona, Mrs. E. Miehe of Maynard; one granddaughter, Eileen Miehe, a student at Wartburg College, Waverly; three brothers, Edmundt, Westgate, Orval and Aaron of Oelwein; one sister, Clara (Mrs. Julius) Stahl of Oelwein; and other more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
