Spc. Robert E. Dyas, 21, of Nampa, Idaho died Sep. 21, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with small arms fire. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. Robert is survived by his mother, Melissa (Jerry) Nowland; father, Bob (Darci) Dyas; sisters, Misty Pokorney, Nikole Holmes, Victoria Nowland and Aubrey Dyas; brother, Jake Nowland; fiancée, Kasey Kobelt; maternal grandfather, Jim (Lynn) Doolittle; paternal grandmother, Vicki Dyas; paternal grandfather, LeRoy (Kim) Dyas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Wanda G. Doolittle and Bernice Dyas.
