He was born Feb. 19, 1910, in Auburn, the son of the late Leonard and Hannah Garth Nicholls.
Mr. Nicholls was proprietor of the Nicholls and Sons Hardware in Auburn, which was founded by his father in 1932.
His wife, Lillian Harms Nicholls, died Nov. 13, 1985.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Nicholls.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Sondra J. Narmont of Auburn; one son, William Joseph of Gibson City; two brothers, Kendalland Walt, both of Auburn; one sister, Mrs. Lizzy Smith of Springfield; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Auburn Cemetery, with the Rev. James Kondrath officiating.
