Pfc. Carlos A. Aparicio, 19, of San Bernadino, Calif., died Sept. 23 in Wardak, province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked their unit using an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La. The son of Connie and Hugo Aparicio was the youngest of three children, including his brother Miguel Aparicio, and Maricela Aparicio. Carlos is a graduate of Redlands East Valley High School. Pfc Aparicio instantly earned the respect and trust of his fellow soldiers through attention to detail and a dogged determination on the battlefield. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
