George Leonard Fisher died peacefully at home in Page on April 12, 2007. He was born Jan. 25, 1939, in Flagstaff. He was the son of George and Lillie Mae Shartzer Fisher. Except for a short time that the family lived in Denver, Colo., he spent his childhood and youth in Flagstaff.
At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years. At the age of 18, he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis McCauley, and together they had three children: Kelly Leon (Nina) of Page; Karyl Lyn (Michael Keanaaina) of Hurricane, Utah; and CW3 Aaron Lance (Stacy) of Ft. Carson, Colo.
After his naval service, Leonard did many things before becoming an apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. After he became a journeyman, he worked several years in Flagstaff. In 1972, he moved to Page to work on the Navajo Generating Station with Bechtel Corporation. In 1973, his family joined him, and they have lived in Page ever since.
In 1977, Leonard started working with Salt River Project. After his retirement from SRP in August 1997, Leonard got his commercial driver?s license and worked for a time with Swift Trucking. He also drove buses for Page Unified School District and Helping Hands Agency. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with his last assignment being a Page Stake High Councilman.
Leonard is survived by his wife, three children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23 at 10 a.m. in the Page Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the stake center. Leonard will be buried in the Anderson family plot in the Flagstaff Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab.
