Lola Abel Bates, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 23, 2011 after an extended hospital visit. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram followed by a visitation Tuesday from 10:00 until the 11:00 service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Burial will follow at Lakewood South Cemetery.
Lola Bates was born on June 16, 1920 in Madison County to Troy and Nettie Abel. She retired from the Mississippi State Tax Commission at 80 years of age.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert Bates; parents, Troy and Nettie Abel; and brothers: Richard and Alva Abel.
Survivors include her children, Curtis Bates (Elaine), Douglas Bates (Patsy Barron), Troy Bates (Dena), and Rebecca Nichols; sister: Pat Fauver; sister-in-laws: Betty Abel and Laverne Bates; 3 grandchildren: Johnny Bates (Melissa), Audrey Bates Touchton (Gary), and Jerry Nichols; 5 Great grandchildren: Tyler Touchton, Makayla Bates, Trinity Nichols, Chelsea McClanahan, and Cheyene Elias; 3 great-great grandchildren: Landon, Zeke, and Braedyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
