Dick enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on April 13, 1943 in Rochester, New York. He was a Medic Corpsman AAF with the 403 Troop Carrier Group. He was Honorably Discharged on February 2, 1946 as a Corporal at the end of World War II.

Battles and campaigns were Bismarck Archipelago, Luzon, New Guinea, Southern Philippines and West Pacific. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge, American Service Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Lapel Button issued.

He married Agnes Dolores Kuchman on April 10, 1948 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rochester, New York. They had five children.

He worked for Taylor Instrument Company.

Richard was buried in White Haven Cemetery on October 23, 1990 and moved to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on October 26, 2010.
