Charles W. Allen, 89, rural Atlanta, passed away at 12:22 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 25, 2011) at Hopedale Medical Complex.

He was born July 24, 1922 in New Holland to Edward and Lula Allen. He married Norma Irene Bicknell on Dec. 15, 1945. She survives.

Also surviving are his three children, Wanda (Elliott) Rogers, Armington and Wilma (Glenn) Leesman and Dale (Christy) Allen, both of Atlanta; one brother, Harry Lee Allen, Mason City; one sister, Marie Skelton, Lincoln; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 83rd Infantry Division, Coast Artillery Corps 453rd, Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. He received two Bronze Stars. He was a corporal in Army. He landed in Normandy on the third day of the invasion.
