CLYDE CHILSON SR., 67, of Mercur, Wysox RR2, died Thursday evening, June 24, 1993, at Memorial Hospital in Towanda. Born August 28, 1925, in Endicott, N.Y., he was a son of the late Albert and Minnie Mae Benjamin Chilson. Clyde attended the Towanda Schools and was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S. Army’s company H 109th Infantry Regiment 25th Division in Normandy, France and the Rhineland. He also served as a prisoner of war in Germany for six months. He was formerly employed by Coolbaugh’s Garage in N. Towanda and Sam Williams’ Garage in LeRaysville for many years. He later owned and operated Clyde Chilson’s Auto Body Shop in Mercur for many years before his retirement. He was a member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42, enjoyed hunting, fishing and music and was a talented musician. He is survived by: six daughters, Patricia Shedden of Ulster, Connie Babcock of Sylvara, Pa., Sandra Vanderpool of Towanda, Gloria Sites of Towanda, Theresa Rinebold of Sayre, and Eloise “Wink” Chilson of Wysox; two sons, Clyde Chilson Jr. of Durrell, Pa., and Thomas Chilson of Lake Wesauking; two sisters, Minnie Chilson of Liberty Corners and Anna Sosenko of Montrose, Pa.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mamie and Fred Bennett of Monroeton RR 1; his loving friend, Julia Brown of Wysox RR 2; several sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Virginia H. Bailey Chilson, on March 14, 1993; a son Leonard Chilson; and several brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 29, 1993, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David C. Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa. with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors. The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Wysox Volunteer Emergency Medical Service, Box 302, Wysox, Pa. in Clyde Chilson Sr.’s memory.
