Sarah Jane Lomax, daughter of John Willis Lomax and Elizabeth Brooks Keller Lomax, was born May 20, 1851 and married Joel T Townsend, of Cokesbury on Nov 16, 1876. She died Mar 11, 1940. He was born Aug 8, 1840 and died in Cokesbury, Feb 15, 1908. Joel T Townsend was a brother of Capt J Fletcher Townsend who married Barbara Lomax. Both Townsends were sons of the Rev Joel Wilson Townsend, long one of the leading members of the South Carolina Conference and who was born in Marlboro County on Jan 19, 1800 and died in Cokesbury May 14, 1880.

Cokesbury - Feb 15 - Mr Joel T Townsend, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizens of Cokesbury died early this morning at his late residence. He had been in bad health for quite a long time suffering from heart trouble. He had from early manhood been a consistent member of the Methodist Church. It may truly be said of Mr Townsend that he was one of the noblest works of God-an honest man-and with all a high-toned Christian gentleman of the old school.
He was a son of the late Rev Joel Townsend, who was in his day and time a power in the Methodist conference.
He leaves a devoted wife and 5 sons: Milton, Joel L, John R, Willia and Jimmie.

3 brothers, Mr Ashbury Townsend of Greenwood County, Mr James Townsend of Texas and Mr Fletch Townsend of Georgia.
