Cokesbury - Feb 15 - Mr Joel T Townsend, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizens of Cokesbury died early this morning at his late residence. He had been in bad health for quite a long time suffering from heart trouble. He had from early manhood been a consistent member of the Methodist Church. It may truly be said of Mr Townsend that he was one of the noblest works of God-an honest man-and with all a high-toned Christian gentleman of the old school.

He was a son of the late Rev Joel Townsend, who was in his day and time a power in the Methodist conference.

He leaves a devoted wife and 5 sons: Milton, Joel L, John R, Willia and Jimmie.
2 sisters, Mrs Mary Hodges of Hodges and Mrs Sifley of Barnwell County
3 brothers, Mr Ashbury Townsend of Greenwood County, Mr James Townsend of Texas and Mr Fletch Townsend of Georgia.
