Virgie grew to womanhood in the community of her birth where she received her early education at the local schools.
On December 8, 1932, she was united in marriage to Elva Loyd Allen at Lancaster, Missouri. This union was blessed with 8 children, 7 of whom survive.
After their marriage, Virgie and Elva made their home with her mother, Minnie Freeborn for the first year, then moved to Coal City, Iowa for approximately 4 years. In 1942, they moved to their present home in the Chariton community, where they have since resided. Elva has been engaged in farming during these years while Virgie was a successful homemaker.
Virgie was preceded in death by one infant son, one infant grandson and one infant granddaughter.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Elva; her parents, Charles and Minnie Freeborn; 2 sons, Charles Loyd Allen of Fort Myers, Florida and Thomas Elva Allen of Novinger, Missouri; 5 daughters, Barbara Peckham of Unionville, Missouri, Betty Tompkins of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bonnie Mendenhall of Swan, Iowa, Beulah Boland of Lucerne, Missouri, and Mary Oden of Unionville, Missouri; 23 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
