George Preston Abbott, age 74, of 115 Santa Rita died Thursday, Aug 18 in Sun Towers hospital, El Paso. He was born June 16, 1909 in Sedan, the son of Alver and Mollie Abbott ant resided in t Ii is area for 44 years. Abbott as a pipe fitter foreman for Kennecott Copper Mines for 20 years, retiring in 1965. He was- a member of the Baptist Church and attended the Hurley Community Church a member of the Hurley Masonic Lodge No. 55 for years; a life member of New Mexico~ Order of Eastern Start Hurley Chapter No. 43 and the Grand Cross of color International Order of the Rainbow of Girls. Abbott 'is survived by his wife, Lillian E. Abbott of Hurley; one niece, Rose Mary Adams of Tucson; two nephews, Robert Abbott of Tucson Thurston Abbott with the U.S. Foreign Service. Chapel services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22 inthe Curtis-Bright Funeral home Chapel under the direction of Rav. Kenneth Schultz of the Hurley Community Church. Graveside services were conducted in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of the Hurley Masonic lodge No. 55. Serving as pallbearers, were Homer. Young Don Ruttan, Henry Wallis, Edgar Wheat, Odel Fortenberry and Earl Ethenidge. The honorary pallbearers were all Masons and friends
