Obituary - Departed this life on Tuesday the 26th day of April last, Mary Wilson, consort of Noah Wilson, Esq. of Canton township, aged 71 years and 10 months. She early espoused the cause of religion, - became a member of a christian church and continued to adorn her profession to the last period of her life - was a bright and shining example as a follower of a meek and lowly Savior. She had filled up the measure of her days with usefulness - was ever a ready attendant on the sick and afflicted, administering relief to the necessities and distress of all around her. To her husband she hath been the pride and pleasure of his youth - the affectionate companion of his middle age, and the stay and consoling friend of his declining years - In her life was his earthly comfort, and in her death his loss is irreparable. She has raised a respectable family of eight children to whom she has been the kindest of mothers - and who, with their surviving father and numerous friends, are left to mourn an irretrievable and irreparable loss. In health she was industrious to a fault: economical and frugal - in sickness patient and cheerful. In her last sickness she was attacked with pulmonary consumption, and confined about three months during which period she was unable to lay in bed, but continually sat in her arm chair, night and day. She endured great pain of body with christian patience and fortitude. When the time of her dissolution was apparently near, she expressed and anxiety for her deliverance. She spoke to her son (Col. Irad Wilson, who stood supporting her in his arms) and asked if he tho't she was struck with Death; he told her he thought she was near her end. She replied, "come welcome sweet Death," and repeated a verse, "Jesus can make a dying bed Feel soft as downy pillows are, While on his breast I lean my head, And breathe my life out sweetly there." She expired without a groan, and fell asleep to wake no more. She lived respected and died regretted. Her funeral was attended on Thursday following at the Alba meeting house, by a large concourse of people, when the consolations of the Gospel were tendered them by Elder R. R. Rogers, and a special address to the mourners and society, by S. Rockwell and D. Palmer, all of Canton. (The Northern Banner, Towanda Bradford County Pennsylvania, 26 April 1836)
