Born Antonino Adamo in San Biagio Platani, Agrigento Province, Sicily to Giuseppe "Joseph" Adamo and Dorotea "Dorothy" Santoro.

His father died in Sicily and Dorothy immigrated to the US in 1921 with Anthony and his brother Vincenzo. She remarried Charles San Felipe in Houston.
