Roger was born March 2, 1922, and lived the majority of his life around Hurlock. During World War II he served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and was decorated for his heroic work on the USS Frances Harrington after it was disabled on D-Day off the Normandy coast. After his return to the U.S., Roger worked "everywhere and did everything." He is perhaps best known for his years as a locksmith and for his work within the Dorchester County Public School system.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of several years, Ruth Henning Jones, and by family and many friends. Friends and family will be greeted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Roger's request was for donations to be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD, 21613.
