BROWNFIELD, Ill. Vivian Bates, 62, of the Brownfield community in Pope County, Ill. passed away Friday, March 6, 2009 at 9:10 p.m. at her home.
Vivian was born December 1, 1946, in Eddvyille, Ill. She was the daughter of Lee Clardy and Myrtle Bailey Clardy.
On February 18, 1963, Vivian was united in marriage to Allen Bates, he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Carl Bates and Linda Billington of Brownfield; one daughter, Carla Bates and Larry Barger of Eddyville, Ill.; three granddaughters, Sherry and husband Jesse Barger, Heather Cowsert and Jessica Cowsert; a great-granddaughter, Janayah Moore; five brothers, Howard and wife Margaret Clardy of Florida, Dale Clardy of Eddyville, Ill., Gale and wife Carmen Clardy of Eddyville, Ill., David and wife Donna Clardy of Eddyville, Ill., and Wendell Clardy of Vienna, Ill.; seven sisters, Ethel and husband Paul Rushing of Vienna, Marge and husband Bob Lowry of Metropolis, Mary Grisham of Harrisburg, Edna and husband Bob Russell of Manville, Texas, Jean and husband Billy Buttrum of Vienna, Shirley and husband Larry Doiron of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Wanda Cook of Metropolis; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Clary and Kenneth Clardy and a sister-in-law, Wilma Jean Clardy.
Vivian was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and writing poetry which she shared with her family. Vivian was a member of the Cedar Grove Social Brethren Church near Eddyville, Ill.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove Social Brethren Church. The Rev. Jerry Wells will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Paul Rushing, 110 Missy Ln., Vienna, IL 62995.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
