U.S. Congressman. Moving to Pennsylvania, in 1841, he was successful in the lumber business, mercantile pursuits and also engaged in banking. In 1859, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth Congress, serving until 1861. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his previous business interests until his death at age 63.
