He was a retired mail carrier, having carried mail for 35 years from Mt. Upton to Morris. Earlier in his lifetime he was a farmer. He was mayor of Morris over an 18-year period and later worked in Gage's Store and more recently at the Morris Victory Market. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Morris. Surviving are his wife; a son, Ralph J.
