Mr. Charles R. "Dick" Smyth of Home, Alaska, died 07/15/2011, in Homer American Legion. Mr. Smyth was 68 years old. He was the son of Corinne Smyth Sturgeon and Charles Smyth.

He served in the army, traveled and arrived in Anchorage in 1964. He flew his first solo flight from Anchorage to Homer in the late '70s and the natural beauty of the place led him to move here soon after.
Dick loved Alaska, hunting, fishing, softball, golf, horseracing, cribbage and his dogs. He loved taking trips to Las Vegas and was an avid Chicago Bears and Boston Red Sox fan. He also was a great storyteller.

Dick was preceded in death by his daughter Kristi Smyth. He is survived by his mother Corinne Sturgeon of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; father Charles Smyth of Saco, Maine; brother Timothy Smyth and sister-in-law Belinda of Millinocket, Maine; sister Peggy Lapikas and brother-in-law Denny of Columbia City, Ore.; brother Terry Smyth and sister-in-law Sharon of Medway, Maine; sister Liz Langley of Anchorage; son, Mike Smyth of Homer; son Larry Smyth and daughter-in-law Bev of Clarkston, Wash.; step-daughter Cherise Liston and her fianc Gabriel of Anchorage; grandchildren Michael, Kristopher, Kayla and her fianc Adrian, all of Homer; Zallman, Justice and Autumn, all of Anchorage; great-grandson Drayden of Homer; and very special friends Vicki and Jim Swaggert of Sterling.
