Karen A. Allen, 57, of Oppenheim, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, Sept. 28, 2011, at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville, with her loving family by her side.
Karen was born on May 5, 1954, in Little Falls, a daughter of Grace Ann Eggleston and the late James R. Eggleston. She attended Dolgeville Central School and was employed as a certified nurse's aid at St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsville.
On May 6, 1995, Karen was united in marriage with Gordon R. Allen in Oppenheim, and celebrated their 16th year together this past May.
Karen was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. Her most precious time was spent in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren, for whom she cherished and adored. A daughter, sister, aunt, mother and friend, Karen will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She touched many lives and her memory will live on.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Gordon R. Allen, at home; her loving mother, Grace Ann Eggleston, of Dolgeville; her special children, Krista Penz and her husband, Chris, of Herkimer, Donald Carpenter, of Ilion, Jeramie Carpenter, of Clayville, and Corey Carpenter and his wife, Kelly, of Lowell, NC; step children, Christina Coons and her husband, Will, of Rotterdam, and Jason Allen and his wife, Stacey, of Nelliston; her siblings, Debbie Houle and her husband, John, of Dolgeville, Curt Eggleston and his wife, Marti, of Dolgeville, and Scott Eggleston and his wife, Brenda, of Dolgeville; her mother and father-in-law, Fern and Benny Tisi, of Oppenheim; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Janie and Pete Martyniuk, of Oppenheim, and Larry and Verna Allen, of Oppenheim; twelve cherished grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, James Eggleston, in January 2000.
Calling hours will be held Friday (today), Sept. 30, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf St., Dolgeville. A funeral service for Karen will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim McMillian officiating. Burial will be in Rural Park Cemetery in Ingham Mills.
