U.S. Congressman. Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he attended Rutgers University and during World War II, he served in the US Navy, (1940-45). After the war, he was a insurance broker, member, Edison Township Council, (1958-69), Mayor of Edison, (1969-73) and served in the New Jersey Senate, (1974-80). In 1981, he was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-seventh Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until his retirement in 1993. He died of a heart at age 77 in Edison, New Jersey and was the last member of Congress who was also a survivor of the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor.
