A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1940. He retired from American Enka in 1971 where he was a machinist for more than 30 years. He was a member of Deaverview Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Latt Jerome and Ellen Payne Brown and the husband of the late Ida Mae Coward Brown, who died Nov. 11, 1997.
Surviving are sons, Ernest and Michael Brown; daughters, Patricia Whitaker and Susan Levi. Sister Edith Ball and brothers Victor and Obie Brown.
Funeral at Anders-Rice with Revs. Earl Moseley and James Paul officiating. Burial in Pisgah View Memorial Park.
