She married James William Sims in 1844 in Bedford, Tennessee. They had seven children in 16 years.
Sarah Jane and James moved to Missouri with their children and settled in the Christian County and Stone County sometime between 1850-1854. Much of their extended family moved to Missouri, also, and lived near them.
Sarah Jane died at the early age of 37 years in Stone, Missouri. Her baby son, Thomas, was just a few months old. Thomas was born in the Fall of 1861 and Sarah Jane died in the Spring of 1862.
It is not know where Sarah Jane was buried, but it is possible that she was laid to rest in the Ponce de Leon Cemetery in Stone County where her husband, James, is buried.
