He was 83 years old, born June 21, 1920 at Saint Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City to M.C. (Sam) Akin and Hazel Montgomery Akin. He graduated from Northeast High School where he was captain of the football team and played as a running back. He earned a football scholarship to Oklahoma State University.

Bo was inducted into the National Guard in Oklahoma's 45th Division. During his five years of military service, he was stationed at Fort Sill, Camp Barkley, Fort Bliss and the Waco Flying School where he helped prepare student pilots in basic training. At Kelley Field he worked in supplies as a tech sergeant and also served in field artillery. He received an honorable discharge September 16, 1945.

After his discharge, he worked for Borden and General Foods before starting Akin Appliance, which he made a success for more than 20 years. He was hired by Mustang Fuel Corporation, now Enogex and became the head of the Right of Way department. When asked the secret of his success he replied 'I just killed them with kindness!' He retired in 1991.

Bo was active in Demolay and served as a Worthy Patron of Rainbow Girls, was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of the American Legion Post 12.
