Last Saginaw Civil War Veteran Passes
N.J. Dunn, Brother of Mrs. Lillie Parker of Clio, Dies at 92
Saginaw County lost it's last Civil War veteran in the death of N.J. Dunn, brother of Mrs. Lillie A. Parker, 206 E. Vienna Street, Clio, who passed away in Saginaw Sunday morning.
Mr. Dunn, 92, had been ill the last five years, following a stroke, although he had been able to participate in Memorial Day programs throughout these latter years, with the exception of one time. He had been an employee of the Case Funeral Home for a number of years, prior to the time he was stricken.
Saginaw County and neighboring counties annually paid tribute to the aged veteran of the war of the north and south by inviting him to be a feature in the Memorial Day parades.
Last year, the Bridgeport band played before his home where he was confined, after which members filed into the room of the veteran and shook his hand, while a minister gave an address on the occasion. The Case ambulance also came, and Mr. Dunn was made comfortable on a cot that he might take part was was his custom in the parade.
Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Dunn.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the Veteran's association. In attendance from Clio were his sisters, Mrs. Lillie Parker, Clare Parker, former Neeley-LaBar Legion post commander and Mrs. Kenneth Osborne.
