Singer, Songwriter. Born in Buffalo, New York, after being educated at the Christian Brothers School, he moved to London to study voice. Returning to America, he began his career as a tenor performing as a singer in minstrel shows and acted in several Broadway shows such as “Barry of Ballymore”, “Isle of Dreams”, “The Heart of Paddy Whack” and “Macushla”. As a songwriter, he collaborated with Ernest Ball and George Graff, which together they produced the hit songs “My Irish Rose”, “Mother Machree”, “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling”, “In the Sun shine of Your Love” and “Tic Tac Toe”. He died at age 73 in Monte Carlo. In 1970, he was posthumously inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
