Charles Costello, 69, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at Veteran's Hospital in Louisville. He was a resident of Columbia, Ky., and a former resident of Johnson County.
His parents were Charles Porter and Brodie Mae Ellis Costello of Logan County, Ky. He married Helen Richard (Young) Costello of Columbia, Ky. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Charles Dale Costello of Bell, Fla., and Jeff Costello and William Charles Costello Jr., both of Columbia, Ky.; four daughters, Alaine Reans of Seymour, Sandra England of Edinburgh, Cathy Turner of Columbia, Ky., and Angie Dillinger of Florida; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Mann of Lexington and Debra Young Meier of Columbia, Ky.; one sister, Joyce Burton of Edinburgh; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Randall Lee Young; and one grandchild.
He was employed as a police officer and emergency services worker in Indiana and Florida.
He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.
The Rev. John H. Giles conducted a service Monday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, Ky. Burial was at Columbia Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Columbia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6097.
