Oceanside, Calif.: Robert Wayne "Swede" Munhofen, 88 of Oceanside, Calif. and formerly of South Sioux City passed away on Sept. 21, 2008 in Carlsbad, Calif.

Services and burial were held Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at Internal Hills El Camino Real in Oceanside, California. Full military honors were conducted by Camp Pendleton.

Wayne was born on June 17, 1920 the son of Robert and Ruth Munhofen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He grew up and went to school in South Sioux City, Nebraska. At the age of eighteen, Wayne joined the Marines. Camp Pendleton was his home base. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, Wayne was on the U.S. Flag Ship California when it was hit. He continued to serve during World War II.

After retirement, Wayne enjoyed life to the fullest with his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife: Margine of Oceanside, California, a daughter: Nancy and her husband Lendart Gustafson and family of San Marcos, California, a son: Cody and his wife Carol and family of St. Charles, Missouri and a sister Maxine Archer Durig and her husband John of South Sioux City.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Robert Munhofen, grandparents: George and Elizabeth Smith, an aunt: Mary Enabnil and a nephew: Richard Wayne Archer.
