Silas Grant, age 86, of LaFollette passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. He was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a Prisoner of War in WWII. He worked for the Shelby Warehouse, drove the Rolling Store, and retired from Rust Engineering in Oak Ridge in 1980. He was a founding member of Whitman Hollow Bible Church where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed being with his family, traveling as long as he could be home at night, going to the cattle market, and had a passion for farming. Mr. Grant's family was his life.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Silas Mitt and Josie Grant, brothers Fletcher, Doyle, Lloyd, and E.L. Grant, sisters Begie Hatmaker, Mary Thompson, and Aileen Hill, and daughter-in-law Carla Sue Grant.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Lenore Grant of LaFollette, sons George S. Grant of LaFollette and Jerome F. Grant and wife Veronica of Knoxville, daughters Vickie L. Huddleston and husband Eugene of Jacksboro and Sherry D. McCreary and husband John of Cumberland Gap, sisters Vivian Carroll of Dayton, OH and Betty Shetterly and husband Bill of Dayton, OH, grandchildren Mark and wife Judy, Jacob and Jason Huddleston, Joshua Grant, Heather Grant Watson and husband Jacob, Jonica and Jess-Anne McCreary, 3 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with Pastor Alan Ragan officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011 with the American Legion Honor Guard Post 154 in charge of the graveside service in the Bakers Forge Cemetery. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Robert Morton, Vance Lawson, Joshua Grant, Jacob Huddleston, Jason Huddleston, Ben Copley, Greg Miller, and honorary pallbearer Mark Grant.
