Angela Hazlewood Murat, DDS

Born: Tue Apr 16, 1974
Died: Mon Oct 3, 2011

Dr. Angela Hazlewood Murat, 37, passed away the evening of October 3, 2011 at Hospice House after almost a yearlong, amazingly courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Angie was born April 16, 1974 at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii to young and loving parents, Bob and Amy Hazlewood.

Angie was joined in marriage to Rene Murat on December 21, 2002 in a small, elegant ceremony at Beiger Mansion in Mishawaka. In the summer of 2010, before her illness, Angie was baptized and confirmed at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, where she and Rene also had their marriage blessed by Rev. Msgr. William Schooler.

Angie is survived by one brother, Brian (Jamie) Hazlewood of Orlando, FL and soon-to-be born nephew, Sutton. Loving aunts and cousins and many best friends are also left behind by this beautiful young woman.

Angie will be remembered for her generosity, sense of humor, love of life, and her ability to form immediate connections with people and her dental patients with her infectious smile and laughter. She softly sang or hummed to patients, and with her gentle touch, put the most anxious dental patients at ease.

Angie graduated from Penn High School, Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana University South Bend, and Indiana University School of Dentistry, where she held the office of Class President for four years. She was a member of the American Dental Association, Northcentral Dental Society, Mishawaka Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry and Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity. She was a 2007 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership program, where she formed special friendships.

Angie was extremely brilliant, accomplished and hard working. She was partner with Dr. Harvey Weingarten, Dr. Bill Gitlin, and Dr. Alon Shemesh in Family Dental Health Corporation of South Bend, Indiana. She directed and practiced for five years at Heart City Dental Clinic in Elkhart, Indiana. She traveled to Michigan City to treat patients at the Michigan City Correctional Facility, and most recently at Drs. Hassel's and King's practice in Bremen.

Angie's passions included singing, traveling, watching movies, fine dining, and mostly spending time with special intimate friends and her small family.

For help during her illness, the family wants to express thanks to Dr. Bilal Ansari, Rush Medical Center of Chicago, Memorial Hospital Oncology nurses on 10 South, The Center for Hospice Care, Inc., Hello Gorgeous, Bangs Salon, Lindsey, and everyone else who kept her comfortable with meals, cappuccino and licorice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2011 in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 in Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and also one hour prior to services on Friday at church.
