OBITUARY

Charles Wilmot Benkelman, son of Charles Adam Benkelman and Hertha Kerndt Benkelman, was born at McDonald, Kansas on July 27, 1915. He departed this life very suddenly at his home in McDonald on Dec. 5, 1972, at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 9 days.

His entire life was spent in the McDonald area, where he attended the public schools, later graduating from Kansas State University.

On March 25, 1939, at Marshall, Missouri he was united in marriage with Melba Sparks of that city. Three sons were born to this union.

He spent his life in the insurance business and farming.

His memberships include Masonic Lodge 383 AF & AM of McDonald, Chapter and Commandry of Atwood, Isis Shrine of Salina, Order B.P.O.E. of Goodland, and the Federated Church of McDonald.

McDonald being his home for all of his 57 years, he was extra interested and active in matters concerning the community. In his home, he was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife, Melba of the home; and three sons, Dr. Brent L. Benkelman of Manhattan, Dr. William S. Benkelman of Wakeeney, and Paul W. Benkelman of Denver, Colo., and four grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Dr. Ward Benkelman of Polson, Mont. One niece, six nephews, other relatives and friends all join in mourning his passing.

Funeral services were held from the Federated Church Friday, Dec. 8, 1972, with the Rev. C. L. Swihart officiating. Interment was in Grace Cemetery, McDonald.
