Civil War Veteran - Enlisted on August 6, 1862, at Franklin, Illinois, and mustered into Company H, 101st Regiment, Illinois Infantry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Corporal. The Regiment moved to Cairo, Ill., October 6-7, 1862. Attached to District of Cairo, Dept. of the Tennessee, to November 1862. Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Grant's Central Mississippi Campaign. Action and capture at Holly Springs, Miss., December 20, 1862. Company "H" was attached to the 14th Illinois Infantry till March 1863. Mustered out March 28, 1863.

Married Jane L Lawson on May 9, 1872 in Adams County, Illinois. They had 6 children: Harriett (1873-1881), Frank W (1875-xxxx), Emily, Rebecca, Bertha B, and Albert Paul.
