Wilma Rhinehart Ward passed away at home on October 30, 2000. Daughter of William Floyd and Ilo Emery Rhinehart, she was born August 31, 1909, in Cimarron, Kansas, and grew up in Dodge City, Kansas.

She was a graduate of Lindenwood College and the University of Colorado where she majored in music. After graduation, she taught music at the Central and Lincoln elementary schools in Dodge City. She sang professionally in Kansas and then in Aurora after marrying Carey (Toad) Ward in 1937. Following his death, she became president of Ward Lumber Company. She was a member of Chapter DD of P.E.O. in which she held several offices and was a member and past president of the West Side Reading Circle. A member of the New England Congregational Church, she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity, St. Cecilia (music society), the Mid-West Early American Pressed Glass Club, the White Cross Auxiliary, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Southwest Kansas Royalty Owners Association. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. In 1997, she received the Kansas Bankers Association award for her soil conservation work in Ford County (KS).

She is survived by her daughter, Ann W. Talcott (Thayer) of Short Hills, NJ; her son, C. David Ward (Ann) of Oswego, IL; her grandchildren, Sara Ann Ward and Charles David Ward; a niece and five nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2000, at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora. Mr. Joe Dunham and Rev. Gary McCann will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service. Private interment will take place in Glen Oak Cemetery, West Chicago.
