Death of William Kingsley, Sr.

One of Dubuque County's Oldest and Most Respected Citizens Passes Away.

William Kingsley, Sr., died at his home near Asbury at 8:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, aged 80 years.

Mr. Kingsley was born in Tipperary, Ireland. He came to this country when a young man, and soon after located in Dubuque township, where he continued to reside until his death. He had been sick about a year and a half. Mrs. Kingsley died in 1889.

Surviving Mr. Kingsley are two sons and two daughters, William Jr., of Asbury; Thomas, whose home was with him; Mrs. James Mullen of West Dubuque, and Miss Catherine Kingsley, who also resided at his home. Also surviving him is a brother, Thomas Kingsley, of Julien, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Reardon, of Boston. He was an uncle of Father Bowen of Sabula, and the late Mrs. Wm. Duggan was his daughter.

Mr. Kingsley had accummulated a large share of this world's goods. But above all that, and in which he took more pride, was the great respect in which he was held by all who had the good fortune to become acquainted with him. It may in all truth be said of Mr. Kingsley that he was one of nature's noblemen - kind and considerate, always ready and willing to do what he believed to be right by his fellowman, and ever alert to avoid what might work injury to others.

Combined with his loyalty to his adopted country was a steadfast allegiance to the land of his birth and of his fathers and he prayed ever that he might live to see the sun break through the clouds that have darkened the sky over his native land. He was an Irish patriot; firm and steadfast, and ever hopeful of better days in store for the Green Isle.

Politically, Mr. Kingsley was a democrat, consistant and earnest, and through his labor, always for the success of his party, refused offers of official preferment. Through rejoicing in his party's triumphs, and the success of his more ambitious neighbors, he preferred to remain in the ranks.

In religion,Mr. Kingsley was a Catholic, and lived the life of a most devout member of that faith. When he passed away he was consoled with the last rites of his church and went to his reward in full consciousness of having done his duty as taught and required of it.

The funeral will take place Saturday morning at 9 o'clock under the direction of Gregoire Brothers. Burial will be in St. Philomena's cemetery.
