Deceased Name: Rowena "Mimi" Duerson Sparks
Rowena "Mimi" Duerson Sparks, 81 and a resident of Rio Rancho for about 20 years, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2004. Born December 13, 1922, in Lee County, KY, Mimi was the daughter of Green Monroe Abney and Effie Jane Henderson Abney. She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor and her love for her family and friends. Mimi had a wonderful way of "connecting" with younger people; she also loved to travel whenever her health permitted. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by: three children, Joyce Edwards and Betty Rhodus, both of Rio Rancho, Winfred "Butch" Duerson of Mount Vernon, KY; two brothers, Melvin Abney of Indiana and Willard Abney of Florida; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2004, at Vista Verde Mortuary Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. in Rio Rancho. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at Vista Verde Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Mimi's name may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary, 892-9920
