The Oklahoma County News, Jones, OK Friday, 7 Sep 1923 page 12:

"Funeral service for William Kennedy was held at the Gilbert Methodist church on Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock, the services being conducted by the Rev. G. W. Imel. Burial took place in Phoenix at Greenwood cemetery. The large crowd that attended the funeral spoke of the great number of friends of the deceased, and stated that to know him was to admire and love him. "William P. B. Kennedy was born November 27. 1857, in Ekron, Mead county, Kentucky, and died August 15, 1923, at Gilbert, Ariz. Mr. Kennedy left Kentucky with his parents when 13 years old and went to Platt county, Missouri, where he lived for a number of years. He then went to Oklahoma and made his home there until he came to Gilbert in January, 1920, where he resided until his death He was married to Delilah Ethel Lieurance on November 28, 1880. There was born to this union two sons and two daughters. One son passed away in 1902. Those left to mourn the loss of their loved one are Mrs. Kennedy, wife; Mrs. Fannie Paine, Arcadia, Okla., daughter; Mrs. Lena E, Johnson, Gilbert, Arizona, daughter; Earnest P. Kennedy, Britton, Okla., son; one brother, two sisters, five grandchildren and a host of friends. He was a member of the Gilbert Methodist church and a charter member of the Home Builders class of the Gilbert Methodist Sunday school. His absence in the home will be greatly felt, and the community as a whole has suffered a great loss."

"W. M. Kennedy, prominent rancher of this community, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lena Johnson, on Wednesday evening about 10 o'clock. Mr. Kennedy had been quite seriously ill for the past four days, but 'hope had been entertained that he would recover until the very end. His death was due to serious complications of the stomach and liver. Word has been sent to a son and daughter who reside in Oklahoma, and plans for the funeral cannot be completed until a reply has been received from them. The bereaved are a wife, who resides with Mrs. Lena Johnson, a son and daughter in Oklahoma, and Mrs. Lena Johnson, a daughter, who is a popular teacher in the Gilbert schools. Announcement will be made later concerning the funeral arrangements."
