U.S. Congressman. He attended Chambersburg Academy, graduated from Princeton College, in 1804, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1807 and commenced to practice law in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. In 1833, he was elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1837. After his term, he was member of the Pennsylvania State constitutional convention in 1837 and was a justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, from 1851, until his death at age 80.
