U.S. Congressman. Born the grandson of U.S. Senator Andrew Gregg, he graduated from Dickinson College in 1827, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1837 and commenced to practice law in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Entering politics, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate (1842-44). In 1849, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first and Thirty-second Congresses, serving until 1853. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
