U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Texas in 1842, he attended Reutersville College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1857 and commenced to practice law in Gonzales, Texas. During the Civil War, he served as a Private in Company I, 8th Texas Cavalry, Confederate Texas Rangers. After the war, he practiced law, engaged in banking and raised stock. In 1883, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1887. Declining re-nomination, he resumed his former business pursuits and was president of the Texas Bankers' Association.
