US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the US House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 23rd district for one term from January 1949 until January 1951. After the US entered World War I in April 1917 he joined the US Army, serving in Europe with Company D, 110th Infantry, 28th Division, from May 1918 until May 1919, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After returning from the war, he studied at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania in 1920 and 1921 and Pennsylvania State College (now Pennsylvania State University) at University Park, Pennsylvania in 1921. In 1924 he graduated from the law school of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. From 1935 until 1943 he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate. He worked as chief counsel for United Mine Workers of America, District 4 of German Township School District, German Township Road Supervisors, and South Union Township Road Supervisors. In 1949 he was elected to Congress, defeating incumbent Republican Congressman William J. Crow. In 1950 he was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection, defeated by Republican Edward L. Sittler. After leaving Congress, he practiced law and died in Uniontown, Pennsylvania at the age of 69.
