Phebe S Fausen was born to Paul F Fausen and Emily Virginia Van Velsor. She was adopted by Benjamin Hegeman Schenck and his wife, Phoebe Denton.

Benjamin and his wife became foster parents to Phebe's mother Emily Virginia Van Velsor. Emily had been with the Schencks since she was 10 years old as per the 1850 Federal Census.

Emily married Paul F Fausen and had Phebe. Somewhere the Fausen surname became Foster.



Phebe married Edward D. Voorhest, about 1892. She was the mother of Mrs. Edward Thurston of Huntington, L. I. & grandmother of 4; life-long resident of Oyster Bay Cove, L. I. She died at North Shore Community Hospital, Glen Cove, L. I. of pneumonia.
