U.S. Congressman. He attended Cumberland University, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1856 and commenced to practice law in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He prosecuting attorney of Warren County for four years and circuit judge of the fourth judicial district of Kentucky, in 1870. In 1883, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1887. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was s mayor of Bowling Green, Kentucky, (1888-89), then moved to Texas and practiced law until his death at age 73.
