Civil War Union Army Brevet Brigadier General, US Congressman. During the Civil War he served as Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the 26th New York Volunteer Cavalry, and was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers for his service. He was elected as a Republican to represent New York's 21st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1881 to 1883.
