U.S. Congressman. He graduated from King College, Bristol Tennessee, in 1874, studied law at the University of Virginia, was admitted to the bar in 1878 and commenced to practice law in Palestine, Texas. He was a member of the Texas State Senate, (1886-88). In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1919. After leaving Congress, he died shortly after at age 64.
