U.S. Congressman. Born in Whitehouse, New Jersey, he was educated in civil engineering who engaged in agricultural livestock pursuits, (1850-57). Entering politics, he was a member of the New Jersey State Senate (1877-80) and a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1884. In 1885, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses, serving until 1889. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he built the Georgia Northern Railroad, owned large timber mills and served as president of the board of managers of the New Jersey State Hospital for the Insane, (1891-96). He died age 63 at Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
