Ralph Staab was born on Wednesday, June 20, 1917, in rural Remsen, IA, the son of Frank and Minnie (Strohbeen) Staab.

On Monday, September 17, 1945, Ralph married Rose Marie Majeres at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens, IA.

Ralph was raised in the Remsen area and attended Remsen St. Mary's School.

He entered the US Army in 1942 and got out on the point system in August 1945. He served in the Infantry during World War II. He was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart.

Following his discharge, Ralph and Rose Marie farmed on the Josephine Frisch farm north of Remsen for 38 years.

Ralph attended auctioneer school in the mid-1930s at Sioux City and Mason City, IA, and worked part-time as a free-lance auctioneer.

Then, from the early 1960s until his death, Ralph worked for the Tri-State Livestock Auction Company of Sioux Center, IA.

Ralph was a member of Remsen St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, Post 220 of the American Legion, and Post 3328 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ralph's hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening.

Ralph and Rose Marie had 1 son and 1 daughter: Carl and Pam.

Ralph, 73 years old, died on Friday, April 12, 1991, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA, after a lengthy illness. His wake was held on April 14 at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Following a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass said by Father Craig A. Collison at Remsen St. Mary's on Monday, April 15, he was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen. Graveside military services were conducted by Post 220 of the American Legion and Post 3328 of the VFW.
