Jim was the son of John Benjamin Anglin and was a member of the Anglin Brothers Country and Western group. By 1933 the brothers had formed a trio consisting of Jack on guitar, Jim on string bass, and Red singing vocal harmonies with the other two. Red, Jim, and Jack Anglin, performing as the Anglin Twins and Red, billed themselves as "the South's favorite trio" in the 1930s. The brothers were born in Franklin, TN., into a large family, but grew up in Athens, AL. Jim was a poet, and the impressions he put to paper would surface as songs sung, at first, by him and his brothers Red & Jack, and later by Roy Acuff, Kitty Wells, and a multitude of country recording artists. Jim wrote several songs such as "Beneath That Lonely Mound of Clay" and "Stuck Up Blues", which he sold to Roy Acuff. He served in the Pacific during the war, afterward he sold more songs to Acuff and wrote many more which were recorded by both Kitty Wells and Johnnie and Jack, including such hits as "One by One", "Ashes of Love" and "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide". Jim was known as one of the best country songwriters of the 40's and 50's.
